MIME application/vnd.rn-realmedia application/vnd.adobe.flash-movie

Type of format Multimedia container format Vector graphic animation
Introduction RealMedia is a proprietary multimedia container format created by RealNetworks. Its extension is ".rm". It is typically used in conjunction with RealVideo and RealAudio and is used for streaming content over the Internet. Typically these streams are in CBR, but a container for VBR streams, named RMVB, has been developed. SWF is an Adobe Flash file format used for multimedia, vector graphics and ActionScript. Originating with FutureWave Software, then transferred to Macromedia, and then coming under the control of Adobe, SWF files can contain animations or applets of varying degrees of interactivity and function. They may also occur in programs, commonly browser games, using ActionScript.
Technical details Support of RealMedia is available in a few multimedia players for different architectures/platforms, including RealPlayer, the Real Alternative codec pack and the open source DAP firmware Rockbox. Programmers can generate SWF files from within several Adobe products, including Flash, Flash Builder (an IDE), Adobe Animate (the replacement for Adobe Flash as of Feb. 2016), and After Effects, as well as through MXMLC, a command-line application compiler which forms part of the freely-available Flex SDK.
