Introduction MHTML, short for MIME Encapsulation of Aggregate HTML Documents, is a web page archive format used to combine in a single document the HTML code and its companion resources that are otherwise represented by external links (such as images, Flash animations, Java applets, and audio files). The Open Document Format for Office Applications (ODF), also known as OpenDocument, is an XML-based file format for spreadsheets, charts, presentations and word processing documents. It was developed with the aim of providing an open, XML-based file format specification for office applications.
Technical details In practical terms, MHTML allows multiple elements of a web page-including images and other media that would typically be saved in a folder as separate files alongside an HTML document-to be saved altogether as a single MHTML file. The original OpenDocument format consists of an XML document that has as its root element. OpenDocument files can also take the format of a ZIP compressed archive containing a number of files and directories; these can contain binary content and benefit from ZIP's lossless compression to reduce file size.
